British Columbia PRV report to land at pivotal time

Several big Norwegian salmon companies with farms in Canada's province of British Columbia are watching closely for a government-mandated report promised for early this year on how piscine reovirus (PRV) affects wild salmon populations in the region.

The pathogen risk assessment ordered by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) threatens to add further fuel to an already heated conversation being had by the Pacific Northwest's salmon industry and local stakeholders, but will hopefully settle some of the debate, Canadian ecologist Craig Orr told Undercurrent News.
