Canadian official responds to ‘blood water’ video,

to send inspector to salmon plant

George Heyman, minister of the environment for the Canadian province of British Columbia (BC), has committed to sending an inspector to an Atlantic salmon processing plant shown on video pumping “blood water” into the Pacific Ocean, the Vancouver Sun reports.............................

Browns Bay Packing has issued a statement on its website that said it disinfects effluent before releasing it into the environment, like all plants processing farmed salmon. The company has a Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices certification.
