Chile scrambles to avoid health emergency, lift Russian restrictions

Sernapesca, Chile's fisheries and aquaculture authority, has implemented measures to reduce the impact on the salmon industry generated by the demonstrations in the municipality of Quellon, Los Lagos, a spokesman for the agency told Undercurrent News.

The federal agency -- known (in English) as the national fisheries and aquaculture service -- has also invited the Russian health authority to carry out an inspection at Chilean plants later this month after they issued a trade restriction to some of the country's salmon producers.
