Cold water would help fish form new species faster

(07/09/18)

A new study conducted by the University of Michigan suggests that over the past several million years, cool-water and polar ocean fish formed new species twice as fast as the average species of tropical fish.

The team of researchers, led by evolutionary biologist Daniel Rabosky, concluded that that speciation is actually fastest in the geographic regions with the lowest species richness.

The scientists admit they cannot fully explain their results, which are incompatible with the idea that the tropics serve..........................................
