‘Don’t sacrifice nutrition for yield’ warn scientists


The aquaculture industry is being urged not to neglect nutritional quality in the quest for maximising productivity.

The move comes after researchers analysing fish consumption and nutrient intakes in Bangladesh households found that although consumption increased by 30 per cent from 1991–2010 (with a 33 per cent decline in the consumption of non-farmed fish species compensated – in terms of quantity – by large increases in consumption of farmed species), there were significant decreases in iron and calcium intakes and no significant change in intakes of zinc, vitamin A and vitamin B12....................
