Environmental assessment ordered for Grieg’s salmon farm



A complete environmental assessment has been ordered for what would be one of the largest salmon farming operations in Canada, but a decision by an appeals court could render such a study unnecessary, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reports.

Grieg NL, a Canadian division of a Norwegian company, hopes to construct a massive 11-farm aquaculture facility in Placentia Bay, off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, that would produce 7 million triploid smolt each year, doubling the province’s salmon production.
