Fisheries landings drop 40pct while aquaculture grows


 WORLDWIDE - Landings of the wild fish caught by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries have declined by 40 per cent from the 1980s peak while aquaculture production has been increasing at an annual rate of 2.1 per cent since 2011.

This finding has been revealed in the OECD Review of Fisheries 2017, which also states that the value of OECD aquaculture production increased at an average rate of 6 per cent each year since 2006, as production moved to higher value species.

The document suggests that diminishing quantity of wild-caught fish in OECD countries is the result of declining stocks as well as the introduction of more restrictive fishing policies that aim..........................
