Gill health projects land £3.5 in funding

Funding worth £3.5 million has been set aside for initiatives to improve gill health and resilience among farmed Atlantic salmon – one of the industry’s most significant challenges – under the guidance of two Scottish consortia.

The projects, which are being backed by the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC), will bring together the expertise of Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC); the Roslin Institute (part of the University of Edinburgh); Loch Duart, an independent salmon farming company; and Landcatch Natural Selection, a leading salmon breeding business and part of Hendrix Genetics.
