How to reduce lice levels by 75 percent

An innovative cage design that ensures salmon stay at least 10 metres below the surface of the sea has been shown to reduce lice levels by 75 percent.

Researchers at Norway’s Institute of Marine Research (IMR) have tested the effects of a “snorkel” cage, which is equipped with a roof has a net roof at a depth of 10-20 metres to separate the salmon from the surface waters where the salmon lice larvae are present.
