Sea Harvest deal for Viking jumps first approval hurdle

The plan for South Africa’s Sea Harvest Group to acquire rival Viking Fishing Holdings has received approval from the country’s fisheries ministry, but still needs approval from the competition authority and other regulators, sources close to the deal told Undercurrent News.

According to a statement from South Africa’s ministry of fisheries, the Sea Harvest deal for Viking has been approved, with some conditions around ensuring job protection, which Sea Harvest supports.
