US aquaculture research centers face funding uncertainty for 2018
Upcoming federal funding for US Regional Aquaculture Centers (RAC) -- which work with universities and organize aquaculture research in five US regions -- is still up in the air for next year.
According to Graham Young, executive director of the Western Regional Aquaculture Center (WRAC), WRAC is "marching forward like it's a normal year, but no one knows what's going to happen".
Initial funding for all five RACs, which began in 1987, was authorized at $7.5 million, but in the late 2000s "as a result of issues associated with the economic crisis and sequestration, this was reduced to.......................
