US consumers back offshore aquaculture

A newly released study suggests that seafood consumers in the US would prefer any aquaculture growth to come from offshore developments, rather than land-based or inshore operations.

The study, by Changing Tastes and Datassential, looked at the attitudes of both consumers and foodservice operators, the business executives who make purchasing, menu and merchandising decisions about what to offer consumers.

The study suggests that offshore aquaculture production systems, such as are used by Open Blue off the coast of Panama, would be welcomed by US seafood consumers
