USDA APHIS Announces New Aquatic Animal Health Certificate

(04/15/19)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal & Plant Health Service (APHIS), has opened a new market for live tilapia to Costa Rica. This means that the animal health requirements for exporting live tilapia are now officially agreed upon and Costa Rica has agreed to open the market to U.S. farmers.

All negotiated export health certificates can be found on the USDA APHIS International Regulations (IRegs) website by country.  For your convenience, this link will also take you directly to the newly negotiated export health certificate – Live Tilapia to Costa Rica.

If you have any questions about this export health certificate, or the process of exporting live aquatic animals internationally in general, we are happy to help. Please do not hesitate to reach out to either your local USDA APHIS endorsing office, or Dr. Alicia Marston, Staff Officer for Live Animal Exports – Aquaculture, (alicia.r.marston@usda.gov).
